Melissa has been a practicing attorney since 2016 and is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of South Florida and a Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. While in law school, Melissa worked as a Certified Legal Intern (CLI) in the school's Debt Relief Clinic. As a CLI, while working under the direction of a licensed attorney, Melissa represented numerous clients facing consumer debt issues. In 2016, she started her legal career as an attorney for the Department of Children and Families (DCF) where she represented the State of Florida in juvenile dependency cases. As a DCF attorney, Melissa advocated on behalf of children whose parents were facing allegations of abuse, abandonment, and neglect. During this time, she gained valuable courtroom experience, which includes multiple bench trials and countless evidentiary hearings. Following her departure from DCF, Melissa began working in insurance defense where she represented insurance companies and their insureds in negligence cases involving car accidents, slip-and-falls, premise liability, wrongful death, and medical malpractice. In addition to her experience in juvenile dependency and insurance defense, Melissa has assisted other family law attorneys in a variety of cases involving issues such as divorce, child support, custody, time-sharing, and paternity. Overall, Melissa's diverse experience affords her a unique opportunity to offer invaluable insight for prospective clients seeking assistance, whether it be in matters related to family law, consumer protection, or the recovery of damages for personal injuries caused by the negligence of others.
